*Why is there an 11th bead?
The 11th bead on a decade rosary, often called the "Our Father" bead or "separator bead," marks the beginning of a new decade and separates it from the previous one. In a typical decade, there are ten small beads for the "Hail Mary" prayers and one larger bead before them for the "Our Father" prayer.
This larger bead (the 11th bead if you count all of them) helps distinguish the pattern of prayers. The typical sequence is one "Our Father" followed by ten "Hail Marys" in each decade of the rosary.
